Left Behind (Wyoming)

There’s a sense of nostalgia that surrounds abandoned buildings and objects. A lingering presence of its history, no matter how old or new that may be. I tend to imagine the people that once used these places, what they looked like, what they wore. Perhaps children wearing linen skirts and trousers to fight the summer heat enter the old schoolhouse, their lessons starting shortly. Or maybe a family loading their belongings into the vehicle to start a new life somewhere else, leaving behind old memories either good or bad. Each is unique with its own imagined story.

I’ve always been drawn to these locations but have only recently begun to capture and document them. When deciding between the use of digital or black and white film it depends on how the photograph ends up feeling. Which one better captured and brought back that same emotion I had when standing before the original. This is a series that will likely never be fully completed. The more I explore and the more time that passes, the more I will find and discover.
